2nd Annual CASA Christmas Party

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of the 5th Judicial District brought the joy of Christmas to Pope County foster kids on Dec. 11. The annual party was made possible by the generosity of a local Giving Tree Grant, a sponsorship by ConAgra, Russellville’s Junior Auxiliary and many other members of the community.

One of the unique things about this event, is every child receives a gift they put on their list to Santa.

This wonderful event is hosted at the Pottsville Assembly of God church in Pottsville, where the gymnasium if filled with children from newborn to age 18, foster families, bio families, DHS Employees, volunteers from Royal Family Kids Camp, CASA staff and volunteers — but most importantly Santa. This year, there was a surprise visit from The Grinch, who brought many smiles and hugs to the many wide-eyed children who lined up to meet him.

“We do many events and fundraisers throughout the year, but this is by far the most heartwarming event we have ever done,” CASA Executive Director Genney Baker said. “It gives the kids a chance to see that they are not alone in their journey through foster care, and for one night, the only focus is to bring them a little bit of Christmas joy. Sadly, many of the kids in foster care spend the holiday in shelters or facilities, which is what made CASA staff and board so determined to start this annual event.”
